Western politicians unwilling to grasp essence of Russia's Ukraine peace proposal although it could stop conflict - Putin

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Many Western politicians have been unwilling to grasp the essence of the new Russian proposal for settling the Ukraine situation although it could actually stop the conflict and put things on the political and diplomatic track, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov read out Putin's address to participants in the 10th Primakov Readings international expert forum on Tuesday.

Putin said he expected the forum participants to discuss Russia's idea of forming an equal and indivisible security system in Eurasia and the new proposal for a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

"I am hoping that, unlike many Western politicians who have been unwilling to grasp the essence of our initiative, the forum participants will approach its consideration thoughtfully and rationally and will be able to see that it really gives an opportunity to stop the conflict and to shift to a political and diplomatic settlement," Ushakov quoted Putin as saying.
