MAKS 2024 aerospace show won't take place - Russian govt decree

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - The MAKS International Aviation and Space Show, expected to take place this summer in Zhukovsky in Russia's Moscow region, has been cancelled, the Russian government said in a decree.

"The position regarding the MAKS 2024 International Aviation and Space Show shall be removed," the decree said.

Three Interfax sources in the aviation industry said in May 2024 that the MAKS 2024 show would be cancelled. The sources did not mention the reason for the cancellation. The decision to cancel the show has been made in principle, but has not been formalized yet, one of the sources said.

The MAKS aerospace show was supposed to be held on June 25-30, 2023, but the event was postponed to 2024. A number of media outlets said citing their sources that the decision was made for security reasons. The company organizing the aerospace show, Aviasalon JSC, later confirmed that the event had been postponed to 2024, adding that it would be held in 2025 as well.

The MAKS International Aviation and Space Show is a biennial event hosted at the Gromov Flight Research Institute's airfield in the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Rostec state corporation, and Aviasalon JSC are the organizers. The MAKS show was held for the first time in 1993 and for the last time on July 20-25, 2021.
