Russian Pacific Fleet ends exercise involving over 40 ships, 20 aircraft

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - A bilateral exercise of the Russian Pacific Fleet, which took place in the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk on June 18-28 and included more than 800 training missions, is completed, the fleet's press service said in a statement.

"This year exercise was bilateral for the first time. The Pacific Fleet's Primorye Combined-Arms Flotilla and the joint command of the forces in northeastern Russia took part in it," the statement said.

The forces attempted landing on the Kuril Islands, and tactical groups of the Primorye Flotilla prevented their deployment at the final stage of the exercise, it said.

The Pacific Fleet forces accomplished over 800 training missions, including around 650 live-fire drills, it said. The exercise involved about 40 ships, boats and supply vessels, up to 20 naval aviation aircraft and helicopters, marines, and Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems of the Pacific Fleet.
