Russia-EU relations have bad prospects - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Russia-EU relations have bad prospects, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, following the EU summit's approval of Kaja Kallas as the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.

"Mrs. Kallas [...] has not shown a knack for diplomacy thus far, she is well known to us by her absolutely irreconcilable or even rabidly Russophobic remarks. So, we do not think that European diplomacy will contribute to normalizing relations in any way. Moscow-Brussels relations have bad prospects," Peskov told reporters when commenting on Kallas's appointment.

He also commented on the summit's endorsement of Ursula von der Leyen as the European Commission president.

"As to Mrs. von der Leyen, she is well known. In this case, we're talking only about relations with Russia. Mrs. von der Leyen does not support the normalization of EU-Russia relations; this is how we know her, and this is how we remember her. Nothing changes in this area," Peskov said.
