RIGA. June 28 (Interfax/BNS) - Latvia plans to complete the construction of a fence along the entire 173-kilometer border with Belarus by the end of July, the Latvian Interior Ministry told BNS.
Less than six kilometers of the fence are due to be built along a body of water within the month.
The fence has been completed on land, and infrastructure is being actively developed. The first stage of the project resulted in the construction of 21.94 kilometers of roads for patrol cars and pedestrian bridges. The construction of 1.75 km of pontoon patrol lines has been completed. The work is due to be completed by the end of 2024. Plans are also in place to build six communication towers as part of the national smart surveillance system for Latvia's land border.
