Moscow finds invitation of delegation from Kabul to third meeting of special reps on Afghanistan in Doha highly important - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Russia welcomes participation by representatives of the Afghan authorities in the third meeting of special representatives on Afghanistan, which will be held on June 30 and July 1 in Doha, Qatar, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian Federation finds the invitation to the third Doha meeting as a full-fledged participation of a delegation from Kabul highly important, its leader is the Afghan government's spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid," according to a report published on the site of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Without their representation in the meeting "discussions will lose a lot of practical sense," the ministry said.

The Russian delegation will be led by the Russian president'[s special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov.

The meeting in Doha will be held under the aegis of the UN and will be attended by special representatives for Afghanistan of some countries and organizations (Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Canada, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the European Union).

The stated purpose of the third Doha meeting is to discuss the tracks of development of coordinated international interaction with Afghanistan. The event envisages discussions on political, economic, financial and humanitarian issues," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Moscow is open to constructive dialogue aimed at achieving real headway on Afghan settlement with respect for the lawful rights and interests of the people of Afghanistan," the report said.
