Lukashenko vows to prevent escalation on Belarus' border with Ukraine

MINSK. July 2 (Interfax) - Preventing escalation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border is important as Ukraine has intensified activities in recent days, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"Our neighbors [Ukraine] have become more active in the past few days. And our military instantly took note. On no account shall we allow any escalation or exacerbation. I want the Ukrainian leadership to hear this," Lukashenko said in a speech on the occasion of the 80th anniversary since the liberation of Belarus from Nazi German occupation.

In case of a threat, the response will be harsh and decisive, he said. "I would ask Ukrainians not to fool around and not to play with fire. This is very dangerous," he said.
