State Duma requests that Russian Investigative Committee submit proposals on changing migration legislation - State Duma committee head

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - A request has been sent to the Russian Investigative Committee for legislative proposals on migration policy, State Duma Control Committee head Oleg Morozov said.

"The committee sent a relevant request to the Investigative Committee yesterday, following the chamber's order, for information on proposals the Investigative Committee has to improve the migration legislation and to what subjects authorized to propose legislative initiatives these proposals have been sent," Morozov told reporters on Thursday.

In their request, MPs are asking for a response to be given "in the shortest possible time," he said. The State Duma will then decide in what format and over what period to consider this issue in the chamber's session.

At a plenary session on Wednesday, some parliamentarians suggested inviting Russian Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin to the State Duma for a discussion on migration policy. Bastrykin criticized State Duma for sub-par performance on migration regulation at the St. Petersburg Legal Forum on June 27.
