Russian corvette, Chinese ships to go on joint patrol in Asia Pacific region - Pacific Fleet (Part 2)

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - The Sovershenny corvette has arrived in the designated area to meet with a group of warships of the People's Liberation Army of China near the Jeju Island in the Korea Strait for the fourth joint patrol in the Asia Pacific region, the Russian Pacific Fleet's press service said on Thursday.

"The joint maritime patrol includes practicing anti-submarine and air defense and search-and-rescue operation at sea," the press service said.

The Sovershenny deployed from Vladivostok to the designated area on Thursday, the press service said.

The Chinese naval group comprises theYinchuan destroyer, the Hengshui frigate, and the Weishanhu replenishment ship, the press service said. The Russian and Chinese sailors had a meeting ceremony and exchanged greetings on the radio at the meeting site, it said.

The joint patrol aims to strengthen bilateral naval cooperation, keep peace and stability in the Asia Pacific regions, monitor the waters, and protect maritime economic facilities of Russia and China. The first joint patrol was carried out in 2021, the press service said.
