Russian diesel submarine practice deep diving in Baltic Sea

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - The Velikiye Luki diesel submarine has practiced deep diving as part of sea trials in the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Fleet said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Baltic Fleet ships assisted a 180-meter diving during the sea trials of the Velikiye Luki submarine in the Baltic Fleet's testing ranges," the statement said.

The diving involved testing all of the submarine's systems and mechanisms and practicing the algorithms in controlling the submarine when diving and surfacing, it said.

The Baltic Fleet's ships and the SS-750 rescue vessel assisted the diving.

"Having completed the underwater part, the Velikiye Luki surfaced and continued the sea trial in line with the schedule," the statement said.
