Activity of group plotting destabilization, power grab in Kyrgyzstan put to stop - National Security Committee

BISHKEK. July 5 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz National Security Committee has stopped the activity of a criminal group plotting destabilization and power grab in Kyrgyzstan, the committee press service said on Friday.

"While making efforts towards public security and protection of the constitutional system fundamentals, the Kyrgyz National Security Committee stopped the illegal activity of a destructive group, which was hatching plans of a power grab and sociopolitical destabilization in the republic by instigating mass unrest and deaths of civilians," the press service said.

Five citizens of Kyrgyzstan were detained as a result of investigative procedures and put in a pretrial detention facility, the press service said.

"It was found that the group comprised followers of a criminal ideology, fanatically professing religious ideology. Searches of the detainees' residences and vehicles resulted in the seizure of components of improvised explosive devices, firearms, ammunition, radio sets, body armor, police uniforms, drones, extremist books, and other prohibited items," it said.
