Russian military records 18 violations of Syrian airspace by U.S.-led coalition

HMEIMIM. July 8 (Interfax) - Aircraft of the U.S.-led international antiterrorist coalition continue to create dangerous situations in Syria by flights in violation of the deconfliction protocols and trespassing on the Syrian airspace, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria Maj. Gen. Yury Popov said at a press briefing on Sunday.

"Eight violations of the deconfliction protocols dated December 9, 2019, by flights of the coalition's unmanned aerial vehicles uncoordinated with the Russian side were recorded over the day. Ten violations by three pairs of F-15 fighter jets and two pairs of A-10 Thunderbolt attack planes of the coalition were observed in the al-Tanf area in the past 24 hours," Popov said.

Such actions of the coalition create the risk of aviation accidents and incidents and escalate tensions in the Syrian airspace, he said.
