India ready to promote peace in Ukraine - Modi

MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - India is ready to provide any kind of assistance to bring peace to Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

At the beginning of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Modi said they agreed yesterday that peace should be achieved as soon as possible and that India was ready to provide any assistance to that end.

Modi said he heard Putin's stance and positive viewpoint, adding that India has always favored peace. He said he felt optimistic and hopeful for the future when he listened to Putin and thanked him for that.

Peace is mandatory for the bright future of subsequent generations, so India thinks that war is not a solution, Modi said. War cannot be a solution, as missiles, rockets and rifles cannot bring peace, so India emphasizes dialogue and believes that dialogue is necessary, he said.
