Russian, Kuwaiti FMs discuss Mideast, including Palestinian-Israeli conflict - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali al-Yahya have discussed the international and Middle East agenda, focusing on the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Lavrov and al-Yahya met on the sidelines of the UN Security Council open debate on multilateral cooperation in the interest of a more just, democratic and sustainable world order in New York.

"At the meeting, the parties substantively compared notes on the international and Middle East issues of mutual interest with a focus on the situation unfolding in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. They reiterated the importance of continuing close coordination of the approaches of Moscow and Kuwait City in order to promote political and diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts," the ministry said.

The parties also reaffirmed their mutual commitment to progressively developing the political dialogue and traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Kuwait in trade and economic issues, culture, humanitarian affairs and other areas.

"It was stressed that the agreements reached during contacts at the top level remain the central guideline in this context," it said.
