MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - A unit of the Russian Baltic Fleet has arrived in Havana on an unofficial visit, the fleet press service said on Saturday.
The unit comprises the Neustrashimy patrol ship, the Smolny training ship and the Yelnya tanker, the press service said.
"The visit aims to develop friendly relations between the navies of Russia and Cuba. The visit program includes protocol meetings with members of the Cuban Navy command. The Baltic Fleet unit will stay at the Havana port until July 30," it said.
"The Russian ships arrived at the Havana roadsteads and fired a gun salute. In response, a salute was fired from the Havana fortress Castillo El Morro in honor of the Russian naval unit," the press service said.
The Russian Northern Fleet reported on June 12 that the Kazan nuclear submarine, the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, the Akademik Pashin tanker and the Nikolai Chiker rescue tugboat had arrived in Havana. The unit left Havana on June 17.
