Russia terminates citizenship of some 1,000 naturalized citizens held criminally liable in H1 2024 - Interior Ministry

MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry terminated the Russian citizenship of around 1,000 people who voluntarily acquired it and who were later held criminally liable, ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said on Wednesday.

"More than half of the decisions on terminating citizenship were made for crimes involving illegal drug trafficking," she said.

A person may be deprived of a previously acquired Russian citizenship for committing a crime, or preparing or attempting to commit a crime, she said.
