Putin asks Russian General Staff chief to report on situation in Kursk region

MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a meeting with defense and security officials on the situation in the Kursk region, which has been attacked by Ukrainian forces. He asked the top officials of defense and security agencies to provide information in their areas.

"The General Staff chief is now at an emergency command point, he will report by videoconference," the president said.

"Sergei Kuzhugetovich [Shoigu] will then report on the results of his visits to Iran and Azerbaijan," Putin said.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov also attended the meeting.
