TBILISI. Aug 8 (Interfax) - The Georgian government is consciously and persistently destroying relations with the United States, which is equal to treachery, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said.
"Breaking such an important connection with America is direct betrayal of the country. It's unacceptable when the government consciously and persistently destroys all areas of our success," Zourabichvili said on social networks on Thursday, commenting on the decision of the U.S. side to suspend the financing of some projects of the Lugar Laboratory and the Center for Disease Control in Tbilisi.
The president said the issue is not such much suspension of financing of the Lugar Laboratory and the Center for Disease Control, but reputational damage to Georgia.
Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sardzhveladze told reporters earlier on Wednesday the suspension of U.S. financing would not affect the work of the Lugar Laboratory and the Center for Disease Control much.
