Enemy in control of 28 communities in Russia's Kursk region, has advanced 12 km into region on 40-km-wide front - acting governor (Part 3)

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - The current situation in Russia's Kursk region remains complicated, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces in control of 28 communities there, acting region Governor Alexei Smirnov said.

"The current situation in the region is complicated. As of today, the enemy is in control of 28 communities, having advanced 12 kilometers into the Kursk region on a 40-kilometer-wide front," Smirnov said at an urgent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Around 2,000 people live in these 28 communities, "whose fate we do not know," he said.

Smirnov noted a significant increase in the number of missile attacks and drones, and mentioned a missile that hit a residential house, which injured over ten people.

As of now, 121,000 people have been evacuated, Smirnov said.

"On the eighth [of August], all six border areas started [to evacuate residents] and two districts, Bolshoe Soldatskoye and Lgov, followed suit. That's 180,000 people in total. As of today, 121,000 people have left and were evacuated; the work continues for 59,000 people," Smirnov said.

He said that voluntary people's guards and volunteers had been involved in the evacuation of the population. "As of today, there are 53,000 seats at the deployed temporary accommodation centers, while 25,000 seats have been deployed in all other Russian regions. [...] There are 106 temporary accommodation centers in total, 7,524 people are accommodated in them, of whom 1,083 are children. There are certain reserves; a camp of the Ministry of Emergency Situations from the Federal Agency for State Reserves for 10,000 seats has arrived and an additional camp for 10,000 seats is being prepared in Moscow," Smirnov said.

Smirnov also said that there are 1,912 beds available in the region. "There are 1,912 beds available for medical care. In addition, a Federal Medical-Biological Agency hospital for 100 beds and a Russian Health Ministry hospital for 100 beds are deployed. There are 108 ambulance crews. The stock of medications and blood is sufficient," he said.

Smirnov said that 422 doctors from other regions have arrived in the Kursk region.

He added that the region's authorities "have established collaboration with all security forces."
