FSB detains academic institution employee involved in DDoS attacks on Russian critical infrastructure

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - The Federal Security Service (FSB) has opened a treason case against an employee of an academic institution who carried out DDoS attacks on the orders of Ukrainian security services.

"The Russian Federal Security Service has opened a criminal case against an employee of an academic institution over a crime defined by Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (high treason)," the FSB public relations center said on Tuesday.

The man was detained in Moscow on suspicion of illegally affecting Russian critical infrastructure, the FSB said.

"According to investigators, he initiated contact with representatives of Ukrainian security services. As the special military operation began, the detainee conducted DDoS attacks on the Russian Federation's critical infrastructure on their orders in order to harm Russia's information security," it said.
