Three Ukrainian special service agents plotting acts of sabotage detained in Crimea - Russian FSB (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Three Ukrainian military intelligence service agents suspected of plotting and participating in acts of sabotage in Crimea, including an explosion at a water pumping station, which supplies water to the city of Kerch, have been detained on the peninsula, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.

"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation continues measures to identify agents of Ukrainian special services involved in sabotage and terrorist activities on the Crimean Peninsula," the FSB press service said on Thursday.

Three people were detained, it said. One of them, a citizen of Moldova, has provided the coordinates of a place storing an improvised explosive device "intended to blow up a water pumping station, which supplies water to the city of Kerch," it said.

The suspect, "acting on his own initiative, started confidential collaboration with a representative of Ukrainian special services in April 2024, and gathered and passed information on his orders, including photos and videos showing military hardware deployment sites and air defense positions of the Russian Armed Forces, Crimea's transport and energy infrastructure and the results of enemy missile strikes," it said.

Another suspect, a Russian citizen, born in 1965, received explosives and firearms training in Ukraine and was also trained to detect surveillance and in clandestine communication techniques, according to the FSB.

"It was established during search operations that he made an improvised explosive device and used it to mine a gas main in the Republic of Crimea in July 2024. A similar explosive device was found in his car as he was detained," it said.

The third detained person is a Russian citizen and a Sevastopol resident, born in 1973, "who provided Ukrainian special services with information on the location of military facilities on the peninsula, the addresses of high-ranking Russian Armed Forces servicemen and the cars used by them," it said.

"All those detained are confessing to the crimes. Search and investigative measures are ongoing to establish all circumstances of their unlawful activities in the interests of the Ukrainian special services," the FSB said.
