MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Half of Russians, or 51%, believe no matter who wins the U.S. presidential election in November 2024, it would be irrelevant for the further development of Russian-U.S. relations, the Public Opinion Foundation said.
According to these respondents, United States will remain hostile towards Russia in any case.
A fifth of Russians, or 19%, believe that the victory of Republican Party candidate, former U.S. President Donald Trump, would be better for bilateral relations. They point to Trump's statements on ending military assistance to Kiev and readiness to normalize relations with Moscow, the pollster said on its website.
In turn, 4% of respondents call the victory of Democratic Party candidate, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, more preferable for a Moscow-Washington dialogue. They think that her success could help normalize bilateral relations.
Twenty-six percent of respondents are undecided.
Over half of Russians, or 59%, said they are following the campaign in one way or another, 40% show no interest, and 1% is undecided.
The Public Opinion Foundation polled 1,500 respondents aged 18 and older in 104 communities across 53 Russian regions on July 26-28, 2024.
