Indian PM Modi willing to engage personally in Ukraine settlement efforts

NEW DELHI. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while visiting Ukraine that Moscow and Kiev should hold negotiations to find a way to settle the conflict.

"The road to resolution can only be found through dialogue and diplomacy. And we should move in that direction without wasting any time. Both sides should sit together to find a way out of this crisis," European media quoted Modi as saying.

"India is ready to play an active role in any efforts towards peace," Modi said, adding that, if he could play any role in this personally, he was willing to do that.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said earlier that Modi and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to some extent discussed holding a peace summit on Ukraine.

Modi arrived in Kiev earlier on Friday.
