KURCHATOV, Kursk region. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The administration of the town of Kurchatov adjacent to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is stepping up security measures, Kurchatov Mayor Igor Korpunkov said.
"We're going to step up the town's security measures," Korpunkov told journalists on Tuesday.
The town has recently been declaring a missile alert several times a day, and security precautions there have been tightened, Korpunkov said. "Entertainment events, renting boats and paddle boats, and fishing have now been prohibited in the town," he said.
Local school students will begin their academic year with online classes, he said.
As reported, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi arrived in Kurchatov on Tuesday to visit the Kursk NPP.
Korpunkov and Kursk NPP Director Alexander Uvakin represent Russia at the meeting.
Grossi said he planned to discuss the problem of strikes with the Kursk NPP's management, analyze steps to ensure the facility's nuclear safety and security, and assess the facility's external power supply.
After visiting the Kursk NPP, Grossi will travel to Kiev to talk with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
