Azerbaijani, Turkish FMs discuss Baku-Yerevan normalization process

BAKU. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Ankara on Tuesday to discuss the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan.

"Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue to take joint steps to establish peace in the region," Fidan said.

Armenia's rearming itself is an additional source of threat to South Caucasus, Bayramov was quoted by the Azerbaijani media as saying.

"The fast rearming of Armenia is a cause for concern, third countries are pushing it towards this. We consider this policy to be erroneous, it should be seen as an additional source of threat to the region. Of course, Azerbaijan is following the processes, and is doing so in coordination with Turkey. We believe that this policy of our countries will bring about peace, welfare and stability to the region," Bayramov said.

Despite the positive dynamics in the Baku-Yerevan negotiation process, territorial claims to Azerbaijan remain in Armenia's Constitution and several other statutory acts.

"At the same time, it is no secret that Armenia also has territorial claims to Turkey. Currently, the territorial claims against our countries enshrined in Armenia's Constitution are the main obstacle to finishing the work on a peace treaty," Bayramov said.

Bayramov also invited Fidan to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
