Former Deputy Defense Minister Popov detained on fraud charges - Russian Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Gen. of the Army in Reserve Pavel Popov has been detained on major fraud charges, the Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.

"The Main Military Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Gen. of the Army in Reserve Pavel Popov," Petrenko said.

Popov is suspected of major fraud, she said.

"According to the investigators, Popov, who was in charge of the development, maintenance and operations of Patriot Park in 2021-2024, enriched himself at the park's expense, conspiring with the park's director Vyacheslav Akhmedov and deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Main Innovative Development Department Vladimir Shesterov, who faced criminal charges earlier," Petrenko said.
