MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The detention of a number of former senior officers of the Russian Defense Ministry is part of the regular and continuous work of law enforcement agencies, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Indeed, serious charges have been brought, and certain investigative procedures have been conducted. This is regular work of law enforcement agencies, continuous work of law enforcement officers," Peskov told reporters on Friday.
As to whether former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was aware of "the crimes of his subordinates," Peskov said, "I cannot answer this question."
"We cannot speak about greater details. There will be a trial at the end of the investigation. Only a court can find a particular person guilty in each particular case," he said.
Russian law enforcement agencies have detained a number of former senior officers of the Russian Defense Ministry on various criminal counts, including those relating to corruption, since the beginning of 2024. In particular, three former deputy defense ministers, Timur Ivanov, Dmitry Bulgakov and Pavel Popov, as well as Vadim Shamarin, who was relieved of his duties as a deputy chief of the Russian General Staff, have been arrested.
