Russian ships hold air defense exercise in Baltic

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Air defense units from the Russian Baltic Fleet have conducted an exercise for aerial target detection in the Kaliningrad region, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The exercise for solo and group aerial target detection and identification was held with radio-locating and radio-technical units aboard Baltic Fleet warships executing assignments in the sea and at bases," the statement said.

The planned exercise involved up to ten Baltic Fleet ships and over 100 servicemen who practiced detecting, identifying and pursuing targets imitating mock enemy aviation and missiles, it said.

"In addition, the personnel from control centers practiced transferring coordinates of the practice aerial targets in real time to the command center of an air defense unit stationed in the Kaliningrad region," it said.
