Over 150,000 residents of Russia's Kursk region resettled to safe areas - governor

KURSK. Sept 11 (Interfax) - More than 150,000 residents of border territories in the Kursk region have been resettled to date, the region's governor Alexei Smirnov said.

"More than 150,000 people have been resettled to safe areas," Smirnov said at a final board meeting of the Russian Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday.

As reported, 203 temporary accommodation centers have opened in 30 Russian regions. They are housing over 10,000 people, including more than 2,700 children. Almost 7,000 people are staying at 56 temporary accommodation centers in the Kursk region, while the other evacuees are staying with their relatives and friends.

On August 9, the Emergency Situations Ministry said that a federal emergency had been declared in the Kursk region due to the Ukrainian attack.

On August 10, the National Antiterrorism Committee said that a counterterrorism operation had begun in the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions.
