Russian-Chinese unit of naval ships holds live-fire drills in Sea of Japan during Ocean 2024 exercise - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Units of Russian and Chinese warships have practiced firing artillery weapons at sea and airborne targets in the Sea of Japan during the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"Warships of the [Russian] Pacific Fleet and the Navy of the People's Liberation Army of China, acting as a combined unit, practiced arranging all types of defense simultaneously changing mission districts during the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise in the central part of the Sea of Japan," the statement said.

"The Russian-Chinese squadron of warships also practiced operating in various formations and organizing air, anti-submarine and anti-mine defense," it said.

"Acting under the unified command, the ships repelled an attack by mock enemy airborne weapons by firing their artillery weapons, negotiated a mine hazard district and destroyed a sea buoyant mine. The Russian and Chinese servicemen also practiced counteracting high-speed unmanned boats and unmanned aerial vehicles and held nighttime live-fire drills against a seaborne target," it said.
