BAKU. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Baku is interested in opening regional communications and is working to lay communications through Iran, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizada said.
"Clause 9 [of the trilateral statement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia dated November 10, 2020], [...] contains specific obligations on the opening of communications. If Armenia insists on its current stance, Azerbaijan has alternatives. One of those is laying communications through Iran, which is being worked on. So, if Armenia continues to pursue the self-isolation policy, that's its choice," Hajizada said in an interview with Azerbaijan's Real TV television channel.
Armenia has distorted the clause of the leaders' trilateral statement regarding the opening of regional communications, and "we regret that," he said.
The is progress at the peace treaty talks with Armenia, he said.
"We have coordinated about 80% of the peace treaty text with Armenia. The peace treaty is an integral document, which is why all of its clauses need to be coordinated. Yet, there is progress [at the negotiations] in general," he said.
The remaining Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan are a key impediment to the conclusion of the peace treaty, Hajizada aid. "I would like to say at the same time that the Azerbaijani constitution does not lay territorial claims against any country, including Armenia," Hajizada said.
