MINSK. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin has held talks with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun during a visit to China, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
"The defense ministers discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral military cooperation, as well as key regional and international issues at the meeting," the statement said.
Khrenin noted the results of the partnership between the Belarusian and Chinese Defense Ministries.
"Military personnel training is an important area of cooperation. The contract on training Chinese servicemen at the Belarusian Military Academy, signed in June, demonstrates trust and the high assessment of the Belarusian military education system. We, for our part, stand ready to expand the list of specialties to meet the specific requirements of our Chinese friends," he said.
Belarus and China also launched cooperation in peacekeeping, Khrenin said. Practical measures to advance contacts in the interests of jointly fulfilling tasks during a UN peacekeeping mission were drawn up during a Belarusian delegation's recent visit to China.
For his part Dong reaffirmed China's intention to expedite the implementation of previously approved bilateral projects and to bring the two countries' military cooperation to a higher level.
