BRUSSELS. Sept 13 (Interfax) - The European Union will continue to support Ukraine, including militarily, but whether restrictions on certain types of weapons should be lifted is a matter for supplier states, EU diplomacy spokesperson Peter Stano said.
"[These are] individual decisions, individual member states lifting these decisions. There is no EU-wide position on it. It's up to the member states who are providing arms to Ukraine's defense to decide under which conditions this is going to be used," Stano told a briefing in Brussels on Friday.
Previously, U.S. President Joe Biden said the question of lifting restrictions on Ukraine using long-range weapons for strikes deep inside Russia was being worked on. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Sky News that Biden could allow Ukraine to carry out missiles strikes deep inside Russian territory.
In addition, CNN reported that Blinken said he expected Biden to discuss the issue with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington on Friday.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO countries were not simply discussing the potential use by Kiev of Western long-range weapons. They are essentially deciding whether or not to become directly involved in the Ukraine conflict, Putin said. Western countries' direct participation in the conflict would change its essence, and Russia would be forced to make decisions based on the threats this creates, he said.
