U.S. congressmen urge White House to impose sanctions on Russian helium - media

WASHINGTON. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Over a dozen congressmen and two senators have sent letters to U.S. President Joe Biden's administration, urging it to impose sanctions on the imports and distribution of Russian helium, Politico said.

"Russia hopes to gain a foothold in a growing global helium market and will likely be able to do so unless the United States and our allies curb their nefarious campaign with appropriate sanctions," Politico quoted the letter by Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman as saying.

In turn, congressmen addressed their letters to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

In summer, the EU endorsed the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, which listed helium as a restricted product.
