Russian FM draws ICRC president's attention to Ukrainian violations of int'l humanitarian law - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov drew attention to Ukraine's violations of international humanitarian law regulations at a meeting with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Spoljaric's attention was drawn to numerous Ukrainian violations of international humanitarian law provisions, especially in the context of their treatment towards prisoners of war and civilians," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

"Fundamental issues of humanitarian response in the countries of the Middle East, the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, Europe and Asia were discussed. There was a substantive exchange of views on topical aspects of the ICRC's activities in Russia," it said.

The parties reached agreements on further consolidation of cooperation, it added.

During Spoljaric's visit to Moscow, she also held her meetings with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova, Russian Presidential Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova and Russian Red Cross chairman Pavel Savchuk, it said.

Spoljaric is on a visit to Russia to attend the Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum, which will take place in St. Petersburg on September 18-20.
