DUBAI. Sept 18 (Interfax) - A strategic cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia will be signed during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Russia, member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Abolfazl Zohrevand said.
"He noted that a long-awaited strategic cooperation agreement between the two states will be signed during President Pezeshkian's upcoming visit to Russia," the Tasnim News Agency said, citing Zohrevand's remarks.
He echoed the Iranian authorities' earlier statements that reports on Iranian supplies of ballistic missiles to Russia are not true. The governments of European countries are trying to influence public opinion in order to hinder the development of strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, Zohrevand said.
On September 10, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said that Russia is finalizing domestic procedures to prepare for signing a new fundamental interstate treaty with Iran.
Pezeshkian told Shoigu at their meeting in Tehran that the Iranian government is working on the development of bilateral relations, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Tuesday. They also discussed preparations for Pezeshkian's participation in talks during a BRICS summit in Kazan, IRNA said then.
According to IRNA, Shoigu said that a message he conveyed to the Iranian leader from Russian President Vladimir Putin says that Moscow has not changed its position on cooperation with Iran over regional issues.
