Russian Foreign Ministry warns Moldova against actions pushing it towards involvement in Ukraine conflict

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - Moscow is urging the Moldovan leadership to abstain from steps that may draw Moldova into the Ukraine conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The Moldovan leadership keeps playing irresponsible games, which may lead to tragic consequences in the field of security. Information was released a short time ago about Romania's plans to forward to Moldova and, later on, deploy at the Marculesti Airbase the F-16 fighter jet mobile maintenance station received by Bucharest," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Friday.

Experts view the information as "yet another proof of Chisinau's preparations for the provision of Moldovan airbase infrastructure for the aircraft supplied by the West for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," she said.

"Simultaneously, there is an active process of Moldova's militarization, which includes a number of Western states, such as Germany, France, Poland and the Baltic countries. We strongly urge Chisinau once again to abstain from irresponsible steps, which may turn Moldova into a participant in the Ukraine conflict," Zakharova said.
