Russia taking measures to release Russian, Belarusian nationals detained in Chad - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Russia remains in close contact with the Chadian authorities to secure the release of three Russian citizens and one Belarusian citizen previously detained in the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website on Monday.

"The Russian embassy in the Republic of Chad immediately contacted local authorities to clarify the situation. The Russian Foreign Ministry has taken steps required for the speedy release of the Russians and the Belarusian," it said.

"We are maintaining close contact with the competent authorities in N'Djamena and the Chadian ambassador in Moscow to achieve this goal," it said.

Several Russian and Belarusian citizens were detained on September 19 and September 21 in N'Djamena, Chad's capital, it said.
