MINSK. Sept 24 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Armed Forces need to be "shaken up" and brought to an ideal condition, including through better troop training, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
"There should be no unnecessary drill, but the troops must be physically prepared. Physical education, as with firing, tactical skills and proficiency in modern weapons, should be prioritized," the BelTA state-run news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying as a meeting at the Obuz-Lesnovsky 230th combined-arms range on Tuesday.
"I mean the army should be shaken up and brought to an ideal condition, as long as we have unity in our society and discipline. When harvesting and other agricultural work ends and winter comes, we will have the strictest check in all areas. The military [will be checked] as a whole. Not just the army but also the Interior Ministry and the State Security Committee. Everyone has tasks and everyone knows they must be fulfilled," Lukashenko said.
