MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Specialists are checking the functioning of the Project 677 Velikiye Luki diesel-electric submarine's missile and torpedo systems and its navigation equipment during trials in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The crew and specialists of the enterprise are conducting speed and maneuverability trials of the submarine and are checking its sonar system, navigation and communication systems, mast-hoisting gear, control system, and torpedo and missile weapon systems during the contractor sea tests," the statement said.
The submarine was built for the Baltic Fleet, it said.
In January, the Russian Navy commander said that the Admiralty Shipyards would commission the Velikiye Luki diesel-electric submarine in 2024. The Navy said earlier that the entire series of Project 677 Lada submarines was intended for the Northern Fleet.
According to official information, the Project 677 Lada submarines are fourth-generation non-nuclear submarines carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, designed by Almaz-Antey's Novator Bureau.
