MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - A number of adjustments have been proposed to be made to the conditions for Russia to use nuclear weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Over the past year, Specialists of the Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Security Council staff and other agencies have conducted an in-depth comprehensive analysis and evaluated the need to adjust our approaches to the possible use of nuclear forces," Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council permanent conference on nuclear deterrence on Wednesday.
"Based on the results of this work, it was proposed to make a number of adjustments in terms of defining the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons," Putin said.
"Thus, the draft basic principles [of state policy on nuclear deterrence] expand the category of states and military alliances in respect of which nuclear deterrence is being carried out, and add on the list of military threats for the neutralization of which nuclear deterrence measures are being implemented," Putin said.
