ST. PETERSBURG. Sept 27 (Interfax) - The Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg has launched the Admiral Isakov frigate of Project 22350, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ceremony.
"The Admiral Isakov frigate is the fourth ship in its series. Frigates of this project have proven their characteristics. These multirole ships can accomplish missions in close- and long-range zones of the world's ocean. Project 22350 frigates are armed with cutting-edge weapons, including hypersonic systems," Russian Navy Commander Alexander Moiseyev said at the ceremony.
Frigates of Project 22350 are designed to strike surface ships, convoys and landing forces, to hunt and destroy submarines and ground targets, and to provide air, anti-submarine and missile defense for ships and vessels.
The frigates are armed with a 130mm A-192 artillery system, a Redut air defense missile system, Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles. They also have a Kamov Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter onboard.
Severnaya Verf is building other frigates of the project, namely the Admiral Amelko, the Admiral Chichagov, the Admiral Yumashev, and the Admiral Spiridonov.
The Russian Navy operates three ships of Project 22350. These are the Admiral Gorshkov, the Admiral Kasatonov, and the Admiral Golovko.
