BEIJING. Sept 30 (Interfax) - China plays a constructive role in the Ukraine situation and is persuading all interested parties to solve the problem peacefully through talks, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
"What China has been doing is playing a constructive role, providing mediation services, persuading others of the need to bring peace, and facilitating negotiations. It does not add fuel to the fire and does not use this opportunity for gains," the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Wang as saying at the UN General Assembly session on Sunday.
"The Ukrainian crisis is still hard to resolve," Wang said. It is crucial to prevent an expansion of the hostilities and an escalation in order to promote the soonest easing of tensions, he said.
China, Brazil and other countries of the Global South have founded the Friends of Peace group at the UN General Assembly session in order to reach consensus on a political settlement of the crisis, Wang said.
