MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Russian citizens to be drafted to serve in the Armed Forces this fall will serve one year, as before, Vladimir Tsimlyansky, deputy head of the Armed Forces General Staff Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate, said at a press briefing on Monday.
"The duration of draft service won't change and will remain twelve months, and draftees are to start being transferred from assembly centers [to military units] on October 15, 2024," Tsimlyansky said.
"All draftees will be sent to permanent stationing sites of military units and formations to perform their military service on the Russian Federation's territory," he said.
The procedures related to the draft will be carried out within the timeframe stipulated by Russian law and on a planned basis from October 1 through December 31, 2024, he said.
"An exception will be made for citizens living in certain parts of the Extreme North and equivalent areas, where the draft will be carried out from November 1 to December 31 due to climatic specifics of said territories," Tsimlyansky said.
About one-third of the draftees will be taken to training units where they will be trained to operate modern military equipment and receive military qualifications, he said.
"Upon the completion of their training, they will be sent to military units according to the skills they acquire," he said.
"The staffing of research units designed to resolve applied research problems will continue," he said.
"We also pay attention to staffing research and production units charged with putting advanced ideas and breakthrough technology into practice, as well as sports companies, which provide all the necessary conditions for the most promising athletes to train," he said.
The requirements to be met by candidates to qualify for said units, as well as general information on the draft and army service, are available on the Defense Ministry's official website, Tsimlyansky said.
