MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Military investigators have ensured the seizure of assets of former Deputy General Director of LLC Textile Trade Company, former head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Clothing Department Vladimir Demchik.
"As a measure to secure payment of the fine, satisfaction of the civil claim and implementation of other pecuniary sanctions under the sentence, the court upheld an investigator's motion for seizing Demchik's assets, such as a country house and a three-room apartment, as well as over 100 million rubles," the Russian Investigative Committee said on Monday.
Demchik has been arrested on suspicion of taking a 4-million-ruble bribe in 2017, Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said in August.
"It was found that Reserve Col. Demchik served as the head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Clothing Department until April 2018. In spring 2017, the general director of a commercial company, seeking Demchik's patronage in order to involve the commercial company in the fulfillment of government contracts for delivering various kinds of clothing to the Russian Armed Forces, gave him a 4-million-ruble bribe," Petrenko told reporters.
The 35th Garrison Military Court upheld a motion from the Russian Investigative Committee's Main Military Investigative Department and arrested Demchik, who currently serves as deputy general director of Textile Trade Company of Tchaikovsky Textile Group, on major bribery counts, she said.
"Having studied the seized documents, the investigators found that the company, represented by the bribe giver, participated in the fulfillment of government contracts for delivering clothing to the Russian Armed Forces in 2017-2018 as a sub-contractor. A total of 26 contracts totaling over 574 million rubles were concluded with the company in that period," Petrenko said.
"The opening of a criminal case against the bribe giver is being considered," she said.
