Ground Forces to get over 6,000 new, upgraded weapons, hardware items by 2025 - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces are to get over 6,000 new and upgraded weapons and pieces of hardware by the end of 2024 amid a marked increase in the delivery of modern weaponry to forces, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over 6,000 new and upgraded weapons and [pieces of] the main types of military hardware are due to be supplied by the end of the year," the statement said.

The supply of modern weapons has been ramped up to meet the special military operation's needs, it said.

In addition, the Ground Forces command is working to boost officers' professional skills, the ministry said, adding that over 1,100 lieutenants graduated from Ground Forces schools this year.

"The provision of troops with unmanned surveillance systems, ranging from tactical drones capable of staying airborne for more than a day and monitoring the situation in a theater of operations to miniature copters allowing motorized infantry units to safely 'look around a house corner', has become a breakthrough," it said.

Ground Forces Day is marked in Russia on October 1, consistent with the presidential order dated May 31, 2006.
