MINSK. Oct 1 (Interfax) - A command post exercise coordinated by the Western Operational Command began in Belarus near the border with Lithuania on Tuesday, the Belarusian Defense Ministry's press service said in a statement.
"A command post exercise started in the Grodno garrison under the Western Operational Command's coordination. Armed Forces General Staff Chief and Belarusian First Deputy Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Pavel Muraveiko is overseeing the drills," the statement said.
"The purpose of the exercise is to assess the preparedness of command and control agencies and the ability of the main functional groups to carry out missions amid a changing situation," the press service quoted Muraveiko as saying.
"The focus is on the quality of putting decisions into practice by military units and how they justify their decisions, as well as on working out effective measures to prepare forces for upcoming operations and practicing modern options for carrying out missions, taking the experience of the special military operation into account," Muraveiko said.
