IAEA head says wants to visit BelNPP

MINSK. Oct 1 (Interfax) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said during his visit to Minsk and at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that he intends to visit the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) and make sure its power units are operating safely.

"The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency [Rafael Grossi] also plans to visit the BelNPP to make sure its power units are operating safely," the BelTA state news agency reported.

The IAEA understands how important the construction of this nuclear power plant was for the Belarusian economy, Grossi told reporters, noting that he was pleased that the agency was directly involved in its construction and in ensuring its safety.

Lukashenko said earlier at a meeting with Grossi that Belarus has always attached and attaches very serious importance to cooperation with the IAEA.
