Baku ready to sign peace treaty with Yerevan as soon as possible if Armenia amends constitution - Azerbaijani security service chief

BAKU. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Baku is ready to sign a peace treaty with Yerevan as soon as possible if Armenia amends its constitution, Azerbaijani State Security Service chief Ali Nagiyev said.

"Azerbaijan is committed to peace in the South Caucasus, peaceful co-existence on the principles of good neighborliness, and the restoration of transport and economic relations. Azerbaijan seeks mutually advantageous cooperation with all states in accordance with the norms and principles of international law and is ready to sign a peace treaty with Armenia as soon as possible," Nagiyev said at the conference Solving the Problem of Missing People: the Right of Families to Know the Truth in Baku on Wednesday.

In order to sign the peace treaty, "Yerevan needs to amend its constitution and other legislation that lays territorial claims against Azerbaijan," Nagiyev said. "The peace treaty must completely rule out the possibility of laying territorial claims," he said.

While commenting on the current situation in the South Caucasus, Nagiyev said that certain international actors are interested in escalating tensions in the region.
