Moldovan PM: strengthening partnership with Romania a factor in speeding up Moldova's EU admission process

CHISINAU. Oct 4 (Interfax) - The development of cooperation between Moldova and Romania will help accelerate the process of Moldova's integration into the European Union, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.

"Strengthening the Moldova - Romania partnership in trade, the economy and infrastructure is a guarantee of speeding up the process of our admission to the EU," Recean said at a news conference that he attended on Friday together with his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu.

The two countries have seen mutual trade grow, Recean said, adding, "Romania is the largest market and a stable market for Moldovan products."

"Attracting foreign investment in various sectors, from energy to agriculture, helps modernize the Moldovan economy and accelerates our integration into the single European market," he said.

Ciolacu in turn praised the fact that, "despite political costs," the Moldovan authorities "remained committed to the European path."

Romania must support Moldova in order to help the country cope as soon as possible with the challenges associated with its economy and integration into the EU, he said.

Romania will continue delivering on the existing agreement with the Moldovan government, worth 100 million euros, for implementing a program on technical and financial assistance on a grant basis, Ciolacu said.

The Romanian prime minister is currently on an official visit to the Moldovan capital Chisinau.
